A primary goal for the creation of this website was to create a repository for as
many pictures of registered Icelandic Sheep as we can get our hands on. With those
photos, and the pedigree information from the CLRC we are able to create and present
detailed photographic pedigrees for more and more of the animals in our database.
As you can see, when there exists a complete photographic pedigree, you can instantly
see the 2 parents, 4 grandparents and 8 grandparents, which can be invaluable when
trying to see what colors/patterns your upcoming crop of lambs may inherit.
How you can help
The system currently has photos for over 1,200 animals, or just about 8% of the
population - we need more, but we can't do it without your help.
Do you have photographs of any icelandic sheep that you could share with
us? If you would like to see your photos showcased on our website, the easiest way
to do that is to create an account if you don't already
have one (its free and easy to do) and then upload them yourself with just
a few clicks of the mouse.
Once you have an account, using the Animal Search Page
locate the animal that you have a picture of and then simply use the 'Upload Photo'
bottom on the lower left of that page and submit your photo - it will appear instantly.
You can upload images of any animals, not just your own, and you can even upload
more than one photo per animal.
We've tried hard to make it as easy as possible - so what are you waiting for? If
you have questions or problems, please Contact Us for
assistance.
Alternate methods for submitting photos
If for whatever reason, you cannot create an account, or unable to upload them yourself,
we would still like to use your photos. We can accept photos via email (send them
to 'icelandicsheep@ejbrennan.com') as a jpg attachment. You can attach multiple
pictures to each mail as long as they are not to large.
It is very important that you clearly identify each image/file with the CLRC Animal
ID so that we can correctly attach your photos to the correct animal. The
easiest way to do that is to use the clrc id number as the file name, so for example,
to send us a file for the animal 1234567, your file name should be 1234567.jpg.
If we have to spend a lot of time trying to figure out what picture goes with what
animal, it is likely the whole process will slow down considerably - and will be
prone to errors.
If you can't upload the pictures, and you can't email them to us, we still would
like to help. If for example you have a great set of photos, but they only exist
on actual printed photographs, depending on the animals and the quantity, we may
be able to arrange for you to have them sent to us, scanned in, and then returned
to you as quickly as possible. We can't offer this service to everyone, but we would
especially like to find obtain pictures of 'important' animals, and for those we
would be willing to do this extra work at no charge.
An 'important' animal would be a ram, or ewe, that was a prolific breeder, or shows
up in the family tree of a lot of other animals, i.e. if we had the picture it would
likely to be seen and used by a lot of other people. If you beleive you have such
photos, please Contact Us so we can discuss this with
you.
